Chapter 14, Verse 2

The Three Modes of Material Nature

Interpretation

In this verse, it is explained that when someone becomes deeply absorbed in true wisdom, they can reach a higher state of existence that is very much like the nature of the Supreme Being, which is often represented as God. This state is referred to as ‘transcendental’ because it goes beyond the normal experience of life.

When a person reaches this higher state of awareness, they break free from the endless cycle of birth and rebirth, known as samsara. Normally, people go through cycles of being born, living, dying, and then being born again in a new body. But upon obtaining this deep, perfect understanding, they no longer have to go through this process. This doesn’t mean they lose their individual personality; rather, they continue to exist as an individual but in a much more peaceful and liberated way.

According to the teachings of Vedic literature, those who reach this enlightened state find themselves in the spiritual realm, often described as the 'transcendental planets.' Here, they focus their attention and love on the feet of God. This implies that their existence is not only about personal freedom but also about serving and loving the Supreme Being, enhancing their connection with the divine.

So, in simpler terms, this verse reassures us that by truly understanding and embracing this special knowledge, we can free ourselves from life's troubles and cycles. We can achieve a state where we are not affected by the ups and downs of life—such as creation and destruction—allowing us to live with peace and joy, while still being our unique selves engaged in a loving relationship with God.
