Interpretation

In this verse, the Bhagavad Gita tells us that someone who practices yoga or has spiritual wisdom can be born into a family that has these qualities too. These families are known for having a lot of wisdom and spiritual knowledge. When a child is born into a family like this, they have an advantage right from the moment they enter the world.

For instance, children born in families of spiritual teachers, known as 'acaryas' or 'gosvamis,' grow up surrounded by teachings that promote a deeper understanding of life and spirituality. Instead of just learning about regular subjects like math or science, they also learn values, ethics, and devotion from a very young age. This early guidance helps them develop spiritually, making it easier for them to be good people and share wisdom with others as they grow older.

However, not all families maintain this kind of wisdom and education over time. Many of these traditional families have lost some of their knowledge due to various reasons, such as modern influences. Yet, there are still families today that successfully pass down this valuable spiritual wisdom from one generation to the next. Being born into such a family is considered a great blessing because it means that the child has a strong foundation for their spiritual journey.

The speaker of this verse shares their own experience, mentioning how they, along with their spiritual teacher, were both born into families that upheld these traditions. They received training in spiritual practices and devotion right from the start, which set them on a path to becoming spiritual leaders themselves.

In simple terms, this verse emphasizes the importance of the environment we are born into. Being born into a family that values wisdom and spirituality can guide individuals towards a fulfilling spiritual life.
