Interpretation

In this verse, Lord Krishna is explaining who the best yogi is among all the practitioners of yoga. When Krishna talks about yogis, he refers to people who seek a deeper connection with the divine or the Supreme God.

He states that out of all these yogis, the one who is fully dedicated to him, who worships him with great faith and love, is the greatest of them all. The word 'bhajate' is key here; it implies a form of service that is filled with love, rather than just formal worship. Think of 'bhajate' as actively engaging in a loving relationship with God rather than just showing respect from a distance.

Krishna emphasizes the importance of serving him. Every living being is seen as part of a larger whole, which is connected to God. It is like being part of a family; just as one fulfills responsibilities to family members out of love, one should also feel a duty to serve God because we are part of his creation.

When someone neglects this duty, it can lead to negative consequences, similar to how ignoring family and loved ones can create problems in our lives. The idea is that failing to recognize our connection to the Supreme being leads to a sense of disconnection or downfall in our spiritual life.

In this context, the term 'bhakti' describes pure devotion—serving the Lord simply because of love, without any selfish motives or desires for material rewards, either now or later. It’s about being sincere in service and focusing entirely on connecting with the Supreme without distractions from material gains.

He also warns against those who do not respect this relationship; such individuals are seen as foolish. They might misunderstand the concepts of worship and devotion because they approach the divine with a lack of genuine service in their hearts.

So the essence of this verse is about the highest form of yoga being not only the practice of meditation or physical disciplines but truly engaging in loving service toward God with unwavering faith. When you do this, you grow closer to the divine, and this connection is what makes one a true yogi.
