Interpretation

In this verse, Lord Krishna is talking to Arjuna and saying that he will explain how someone can reach the highest level of spiritual success or 'perfection.' This perfection is referred to as 'Brahman,' which can be understood as a state of ultimate truth or connection with the divine.

Krishna emphasizes that achieving this state is not about abandoning all duties or responsibilities. Instead, it is about performing one's duties sincerely. The key point is to do these duties with a mindset of giving up the results or outcomes to God, or the Supreme Being. This means that instead of focusing on what personal benefits one might gain from their work, the person should focus on doing what is right because it is what they are meant to do.

For example, if someone has a job, they should work hard and do their best not for fame or money, but because it is their duty. They should not get attached to the outcomes of their actions, such as promotions or rewards. This attitude of selflessness and dedication is what leads to a deeper understanding of life and ultimately to self-realization.

Krishna tells Arjuna that this approach leads to 'pure Krishna consciousness.' This means being fully aware and connected with a higher purpose beyond just individual desires. In simpler terms, it’s about being in tune with something greater than ourselves. This understanding and realization come from practicing such selfless actions regularly.

So, the essence of this teaching is that to reach the highest spiritual achievements, one should actively engage in their duties while dedicating the results to a higher power, remaining focused on their responsibility rather than personal gains. This path will gradually lead to enlightenment and a profound sense of peace and understanding.
